A domain is a governance-scoped, labeled grouping of data products and workspaces — Finance, Operations, Mission-Ops. It carries admins, contributors, a description, an image, and delegated settings, and is the unit Loom uses to organize the tenant's data estate (the same concept Microsoft Purview calls a business domain and Fabric calls a domain). Workspaces tag themselves to it via their domain field. Open a domain's actions to configure its settings, assign workspaces, or create a subdomain.
Governance sync
Federated data-mesh
Domains are the backbone of the federated mesh: creating or nesting a domain propagates across the governance fabric. This is the read face — each domain's rolled-up footprint across the unified catalog (workspaces + data items in its subtree), Microsoft Purview (Data Map collection), Unity Catalog (catalog / schema), and its landing-zone binding. Use Governance sync above to reconcile domains outward.
